MEETINGS AND EVENTS 2007

Speaker meetings take place at the W.I.C. Hall, Newton Ferrers 7.00 for 7.30pm.

on the last Tuesday of each month.  Visitors are always most welcome at all meetings.

 

ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION:          £5-00

New Membership cards can be obtained at the monthly speaker meetings or from a member of the committee.  We hope that you will renew your membership in 2007.

 

 JANUARY TUESDAY 30th.  

Tregothnan: Camellias and Tea’

Jonathan Jones will talk about both the camellias and tea-growing, which is becoming big business at Tregothnan –a beautiful, privately-owned botanic garden on the Fal Estuary.

 

FEBRUARY WEDNESDAY 7th. 

‘A Passion for Trees -   the Legacy of John Evelyn’ -  his ideas for landscaping, design and gardening skills.

An illustrated talk by Maggie Campbell-Culver, a Garden and Plant Historian, a Fellow of The Linnean Society, a lecturer on many aspects of horticulture, and an author. She and her husband now live in Brittany.  This will be followed by wine and nibbles.

 

MARCH WEDNESDAY 28th. 

Flowers and Wildlife of Rivers Yealm & Erme

Gordon Waterhouse and Brian Ashley are an informed and amusing team.

 

APRIL TUESDAY 24th.

‘The Botanic Gardens of Paignton Zoo‘

Ian Turner is the Curator of the gardens at the Zoo. He worked formerly at Kew Gardens and

will talk about the delightful gardens at Paignton Zoo and their development.

 

MAY SATURDAY 5th.

Annual Plant Sale and Coffee Morning

Held at the Village Hall, Noss Mayo 10.00 – 11.30am. 

This is our main fundraising event of the year, which is needed to help pay for our speakers.  There is a very good selection of plants and a raffle for sale.  Please bring along your spare plants and cuttings and if possible label and price them as this is of great help to those manning the stalls. Please think about this NOW, while sorting out your gardens in the autumn or spring!

 

JUNE TUESDAY 26th

The Lost Gardens of Heligan

Colin Howlett was a former marketing Director of Heligan for many years and has been very involved in its restoration.  He now lectures and is a guide for these wonderful gardens.

 

JULY SATURDAY 28th..

Annual Flower and Vegetable Show

Held at the Village Hall, Noss Mayo 2.30 – 4.00pm.

 

SEPTEMBER TUESDAY 25th.

Gardeners’ Question Time’

Rose Clark, from Otter Nurseries is very knowledgeable on all aspects of horticulture, and will try to answer your quieries – anything but aquatics!

 

 

OCTOBER TUESDAY 30th.

Annual General Meeting

This will be followed by a short talk by a Garden Society member. 

There will also be wine and nibbles.

 

NOVEMBER TUESDAY 27th.

‘Roses for Garden and Show’

Roy Halsey is an RHS judge and is also a speaker and judge for the Royal National Rose Society. He will donate his fee to the Devon Air Ambulance charity.
